Derek Collison, CEO and Founder of Apcera

Derek Collison

Founder, Chief Executive Officer

An industry veteran and pioneer in large-scale distributed systems and enterprise computing, Derek Collison has held executive positions at TIBCO Software, Google, and VMware.

At TIBCO, he designed and implemented a wide range of messaging products, including Rendezvous and EMS. As TIBCO’s Senior Vice President and Chief Architect, Derek led technical and strategic product direction and delivery. He co-founded the AJAX APIs group at Google and went on to VMware to design and architect the industry’s first open PaaS, Cloud Foundry.

With numerous software patents and frequent speaking engagements, Derek is a recognized leader in distributed systems design and architecture, as well as emerging cloud platforms. He earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.

Jan Plutzer, Chief Operating Officer of Apcera

As Chief Operating Officer, Jan brings over 20 years of leadership experience in enterprise high-tech companies to Apcera.

Previously, Jan spent 14 years at TIBCO Software where she was most recently SVP Global Sales Operations and a member of the Executive Staff. During her tenure, the company grew from a pre-IPO company into a $1B+ global enterprise software leader. Earlier, Jan held senior roles at Informix Software and Oracle. She received a bachelor's degree in Managerial Economics from University of California, Davis.

Mark Thiele

Chief Strategy Officer

Mark Thiele’s successful career in IT spans 25 years and has focused on both operating roles and on driving cloud adoption across enterprises of all sizes.

Mark has deep industry experience and extensive knowledge of the requirements of policy-driven cloud computing and drives cross-functional strategic initiatives as Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera.

Prior to joining Apcera, Mark was the executive vice president of ecosystem development at Switch SUPERNAP, builders of the world’s highest-rated data centers. He is also the president and founder of Data Center Pulse, an organization created to promote best practices in the data center industry. Mark has held executive roles at HP, Gilead, VMware and Brocade and is a member of nonprofit groups including The Green Grid and Infrastructure 2.0, where he advocates for data center and cloud industry evolution.

A globally recognized speaker at leading industry events on a wide range of topics including cloud, IoT, data center, DevOps, and IT leadership, Mark is a regular content contributor to InformationWeek, GigaOm, Data Center Knowledge and other publications. Mark also serves on the technical advisory board of several startups.

Jeff Thomas, Chief Marketing Officer of Apcera

Jeff Thomas

Chief Marketing Officer

As Chief Marketing Officer, Jeff brings more than 20 years experience at leading global technology companies driving strategy, leading go-to-market activities, increasing sales velocity and delivering business growth.

Previously, Jeff was SVP of Platform Marketing at Salesforce.com, where he launched the Salesforce Platform, establishing it as one of the leading Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings on the market. Prior to that, he held a series of executive leadership positions working with major enterprise technology companies including Microsoft, Cisco, HP and BEA/Oracle. With an eye towards business impact, Jeff’s accomplishments have been recognized with numerous Gold Effie awards, the leading industry award for marketing results and effectiveness. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College.

Jay Stephenson, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Apcera

Jay Stephenson

SVP, Global Sales

A driven sales leader, Jay Stephenson’s successful career spans more than two decades and has focused on delivering disruptive enterprise software, cloud automation and infrastructure management solutions to large enterprises.

Prior to joining Apcera, Stephenson served as Sales Vice President of Cloud Automation and Management for the Americas at VMware, leading the sales organization in one of the company’s fastest growing business units. Prior to this, Jay was Vice President of North American Solution Sales at CA Technologies, where his business unit was one of the top performing groups across the entire company. Stephenson also achieved significant revenue, field sales and strategic account growth within executive leaderships roles at leading technology and big data companies, including HP and Experian.

Jay is a graduate of San Diego State University, enjoys cycling and running and has a passion for automobiles.

Jim Reno, Chief Architect for Security at Apcera

Chief Architect for Security

Jim joins Apcera as Chief Architect for Security, bringing with him more than thirty years of software development experience.

The most recent fifteen have been spent working on security software at Arcot Systems (now part of CA Technologies) in roles of VP, Engineering and later CTO. Under CA he was a Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect for Security, guiding the overall development of CA’s security products. At Arcot he led the development of strong authentication and risk management products. He also co-invented (with Visa) the 3-D Secure protocol, used worldwide in the Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs for authentication of online payments. He led the development of production 3-D Secure systems, used by banks worldwide, and delivered as a cloud service as early as 2001.

Prior to Arcot Jim worked in the areas of networking, operating system development, and parallel database technologies, including jobs with Vantive, Informix, The Santa Cruz Operation, and Olivetti North America. He holds multiple patents involving strong authentication and security technologies. He has an MBA from the University of Bridgeport, a MS from the University of Illinois, and a BS from MIT.
 

Eric Leach

VP, Product Management

As VP of Product Management, Eric joins Apcera with nearly 20 years of product experience at Salesforce, Oracle, and Sun Microsystems leading product strategy, creating go-to-market success, and inspiring innovation.

Eric has a passion for understanding how technology solves real problems for customers and using that to figure out the characteristics required to make good products great. Most recently, as VP of Product Management Eric drove the launch and successful growth of a new security and compliance focused business - Salesforce Shield - which became the fastest growing product in the history of the company. 

A (mostly) native of San Francisco, Eric is a proud father who enjoys surfing, cycling, and rooting for the Giants. He holds a BA in English Literature from San Francisco State University.

Jared Skinner

VP, Solutions Sales

Jared is a technology veteran who, after a successful career as an engineer, transitioned to sales.

With extensive technical expertise and a passion for cloud computing, Jared brings deep understanding to the infrastructure and application management challenges that today’s enterprises are facing. Prior to joining Apcera, he led go-to-market efforts for VMware’s Cloud Management and Software Defined Data Center solutions. With container adoption on the rise, Jared joined Apcera to help enterprises transition to next generation applications and infrastructure.

Steve Dischinger, Vice President of Alliances and Channels at Apcera

With over 20 years of business development and sales experience, Steve is responsible for developing global alliances and channel relationships for Apcera.

Previously, Steve spent 10 years at TIBCO Software where he was most recently responsible for managing and executing partnerships with top global systems integration and consulting firms. Steve began his career with IBM and subsequently worked at several successful start-ups such as Extensibility Inc., which was acquired by TIBCO. He has a BS from California Polytechnic State University and an MBA with honors from the Fuqua School of Business.

Alan Harrington, Vice President of Business Development at Apcera

Al joins Apcera having spent 25 years in the technology industry with responsibilities covering systems engineering, business development, alliance & industry marketing and enterprise platform solutions.

Al started his career at NCR and subsequently worked for AT&T, Sequent, IBM, Teradata and most recently TIBCO. At Apcera he will be responsible for Business Development. Prior to his joining the ranks of technologists he was a corporate pilot for a number of Fortune 500 firms. Al attended York University in Toronto and National Jets Flight Academy in Florida.

Chris Lewis, General Counsel at Apcera

Before joining Apcera, Chris held executive legal positions at several private and public technology companies.
Most recently, Chris was EVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at NEOS GeoSolutions, an energy technology company backed by top-tier venture capital investors. Prior to NEOS, Chris worked at Yahoo!, the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the World Economic Forum, and private law firms. Chris holds a BA in Economics from Haverford College, a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics, a Juris Doctorate and a Certificate of International Law with distinction from Rutgers Law School. He is currently enrolled in the Program for Leadership Development at the Harvard Business School.

Anders Lindblad

Anders Lindblad is the Head of Business Unit Cloud & IP and Senior Vice President at Ericsson.

As part of the global leadership team, Anders manages the transition of telecommunication networks from classic design to an IP-based design, moving intelligence into the cloud by virtualizing functionality. Previously, he was the Head of Ericsson's Middle East region. In his international career, Anders has held a variety of positions in business development and commercial operation across countries and regions during his 17 years with Ericsson.

He received his Masters of Science degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Linköping, Sweden. Before Ericsson, he spent 6 years with the Royal Swedish Air Force working as an air force engineer and a fighter pilot.

Kirk Dunn

Kirk uses his diversified range of technology engineering, marketing, sales and management experience to oversee Cloudera’s business operations.

During his nearly 20-year career, Kirk has worked extensively with established companies, high-growth organizations and Fortune 200 accounts, successfully building strategic sales and product divisions, and leading international expansions. Kirk served as the CEO of PowerFile, Inc, which was successfully sold to Hitachi LG Data Storage, and was CEO of Bang Networks Inc. Prior to joining Bang Networks, Kirk served as Vice President of North American Field Operations at Inktomi. He came to Inktomi from Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NET), where he held executive positions in sales, marketing and professional services. Kirk also worked for IBM in senior sales positions. He holds a BA in mathematics and applied sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Apcera Board of Directors member Vidar Mohammar, Vice President and Corporate Officer Finance at Ericsson

Vidar Mohammar

Vidar Mohammar is Vice President and Corporate Officer Finance at Ericsson.

He’s held a number of finance roles at the company, including 10 years as vice president and group treasurer and four years as senior vice president and corporate treasurer. Earlier in his career, he was head of Ericsson’s internal bank, and held corporate banking positions. Vidar currently serves as a board member for several Ericsson Group companies and associated companies, as well as on the boards of PRI Pensionsgaranti and the Swedish Association of Corporate Treasurers. Vidar earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Stockholm, Sweden.
