Where do I find more information on Apcera Platform Community Edition?
For more technical information, visit Apcera Platform CE docs.
What can I do with Apcera Platform Community Edition?
Lots of cool things. Apcera Platform CE is a very good platform for building and running microservices or small-scale apps in production. Because CE can scale horizontally with unlimited worker nodes you can also do larger jobs (if you have access to a larger platform), for instance at a workgroup level, that are not time sensitive or have uptime requirements. CE is also a wonderful sandbox and QA environment that comes with many built-in hooks to popular developer frameworks, databases, and external services.
Why would I use Apcera's Community Edition over Docker?
You should use Apcera CE with Docker or other Linux container technologies. Apcera was built from the ground up as a platform to manage containers, including Docker. Virtually any Docker image downloaded from Docker Hub should run flawlessly on Apcera CE.
What's the difference between Community Edition and Enterprise Edition?
There are a few key differences. Apcera CE can run only a single cloud infrastructure at any given time and cannot run in true hybrid mode simultaneously across multiple infrastructures. Apcera CE is not designed for serving high-availability (HA) applications because in CE you can only run one controller node at any given time. Apcera CE also has limited load balancing and throughput capabilities that would not be sufficient for webscale applications or use cases such as streaming data and real-time processing at scale. Lastly, Apcera CE does not integrate with the commonly used enterprise authentication schemes such as LDAP. Apcera Platform Enterprise Support also includes Apcera's Customer Support, with our dedicated team of support engineers working with you through any development or deployment issues.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge to run the Apcera Platform Community Edition. Acceptance of the Apcera Platform Community Edition Terms and Conditions needs to be renewed every six months.
